Yellowjackets Season 4 Gets Grisly First Trailer

Comment Views: 0

One of television’s most unsettling recent shows is approaching its end. Paramount released the first teaser trailer for Yellowjackets season 4, featuring justified freakouts and gruesome flashbacks. Viewers see the remaining members of the Wiskayok High School girls soccer team responding to being rescued in an unexpected way.

Here is the official season 4 description from Showtime:

The Yellowjackets race to bury their sins before rescue arrives — but the Wilderness has its own ideas about who gets out alive. After returning to Wiskayok, their secrets fester under the growing weight of what they’ve done and who they’ve become. Meanwhile in the present, two of the Yellowjackets prepare to kill one of their own as an old flame roars back to town with plans all their own. Turns out not every homecoming is a joyous one, and this one’s going to sting.

The trailer and description indicate that the new season focuses heavily on the 1990s plotline, which may surprise viewers given where season 3 ended. The fourth season begins November 20 on the soon-to-be-sunset streaming platform Paramount Plus.

What is Yellowjackets about?

Yellowjackets is a Showtime original centered on a New Jersey high school soccer team whose plane crashes in the Canadian wilderness. The story splits into two timelines. One takes place in the 1990s immediately after the crash, while the other unfolds in the present day as the survivors reckon with their past actions.

The series begins with a cold open revealing its premise. A frightened young woman in a nightgown runs through a forest before falling into a pit of spikes. A girl wearing a tattered soccer jersey and animal furs emerges, retrieves the body, and butchers the remains for a ritualistic feast. Close-ups of teeth biting into cooked human flesh establish the unsettling tone. This cannibalistic introduction sets the stage for a Lord of the Flies-style breakdown across the show’s three seasons.

Alan Ritchson stars as Jack Reacher in a scene from season 4 of Reacher.

Yellowjackets has received positive reviews and 10 Emmy nominations, including Outstanding Drama Series. It stands as the second-most-streamed program in Showtime history behind Dexter, with the third season drawing the show’s highest viewership yet.
