X-Files Officially Returning With New Series
Ryan Coogler and original series creator Chris Carter are working on the reboot.
Hulu has ordered a full season of the new The X-Files from Ryan Coogler, director of Black Panther and Sinners. The story follows two experienced FBI agents with completely different personalities who are assigned to a long-closed division that investigated unexplained phenomena. Despite their differences, working together gradually brings the partners closer.
Jennifer Yale will serve as the showrunner for the reboot. Coogler wrote the pilot episode script and directed it before July 2026, after which the project awaited Hulu’s approval. It is currently unknown whether the director will work on the remaining episodes, but he will remain an executive producer alongside Chris Carter, the creator of the original The X-Files.

The lead roles will be played by Himesh Patel and Danielle Deadwyler, who previously starred together in Station Eleven. The cast also includes Amy Madigan, Steve Buscemi, Ben Foster, and Devery Jacobs. It remains unknown whether David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson will appear in the new The X-Files. Both actors previously expressed a willingness to return if offered suitable roles, but their involvement has not been officially confirmed.
A release date for the reboot has not yet been announced.
