Jeremy Renner Teases Potential West Coast Avengers Project

The last time we saw Jeremy Renner in the Marvel Cinematic Universe was in 2021 in the series Hawkeye. A second season of the show never materialized, and the likelihood of Renner returning solely as Clint Barton has dwindled. However, the actor is now teasing a new Avengers-related project.

Renner recently posted a photo on social media showing a set of The West Coast Avengers comic books. The California-based team first appeared in Marvel Comics in 1984 as an offshoot of the New York-based Avengers. Hawkeye is a founding member, and the roster has also included Mockingbird, Wonder Man, Tigra, War Machine, and Vision.

A West Coast Avengers project could offer several characters the chance to return. Wonder Man debuted in the MCU in a series that Disney subsequently canceled. Paul Bettany is currently playing Vision in VisionQuest. The latest incarnation of the West Coast Avengers was led by Kate Bishop, the second Hawkeye played by Hailee Steinfeld alongside Renner in 2021. That lineup also included America Chavez, who was played by Xochitl Gomez in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Since a Young Avengers series appears unlikely to happen, a West Coast Avengers project could help fill that gap.

Why did we never get Hawkeye season 2?

Discussions regarding a second season of Hawkeye ultimately fell apart due to multiple complications. A 2023 accident left Renner with numerous broken bones. In 2025, Renner stated that he was offered half of his season 1 salary for a potential second season, which he considered unacceptable. “We didn’t see eye to eye on that, sadly,” he said on High Performance. “I still love the character, I’d still love to do it, but I had to defend myself.”

Renner remains open to playing Hawkeye in other productions. While multiple MCU veterans are slated to appear in Avengers: Doomsday, Renner claims he is not part of the cast. Marvel actors often maintain strict secrecy regarding their appearances, meaning confirmation may not arrive until the film premieres.
