Sony has not yet reacted.

An enthusiast is working on an unofficial PC port of The Last Guardian that runs the original game code directly on a computer without full console emulation. The project is still in early development, but the author has already managed to run the game from the main menu through to gameplay and implemented full audio playback.

According to the developer, the game runs at 1080p resolution with an unlocked framerate. On a system equipped with an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 graphics card and an AMD Ryzen 5 9600X processor, gameplay performance reaches approximately 60 to 75 fps. Meanwhile, the menu can run at up to 120 frames per second.

One of the main technical hurdles proved to be the audio system. The developer had to independently recreate Ngs2, Sony’s sound engine responsible for audio processing and mixing. Music, dialogue, Trico’s vocalizations, and character footsteps are currently working in the game.

For the graphical side of the project, shadPS4 code is used to adapt PlayStation 4 graphics commands to run via Vulkan. In addition, the author created custom implementations of the console system libraries required to run the game on PC.

The developer also stated that they used Claude Opus as a programming assistant during the project’s creation. The neural network wrote part of the code under their guidance, while testing and technical decisions remained with the author.
