World of Warcraft Ported to Android and Runs at 60 FPS
An enthusiast has fulfilled a long-standing dream for certain fans of Blizzard’s MMORPG.
A developer known as jaredgei has released WoW Forever for Android, an unofficial launcher that lets users run the beta version of World of Warcraft: Forever on Android smartphones and handheld consoles. The project uses the original Blizzard client, and the game runs directly on the device.
The creator demonstrated the game running on an AYN Thor handheld console powered by a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 and a Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 smartphone equipped with a Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy. According to him, both devices achieved around 60 FPS in uncrowded areas, although the framerate drops to approximately 40 FPS in busy cities.
The launcher supports touch controls, gamepads, and downloading updates directly on the device. Running it requires Android 10 or newer, a Snapdragon 8-series processor with Adreno 7xx or 8xx graphics, and a Battle.net account with access to the beta test, which runs until October 21.
