However, determining which series currently reigns supreme in popularity remains a complex endeavor.

Standard Nielsen metrics have yet to integrate anime tracking, complicating efforts to quantify viewership—particularly since the medium relies heavily on international streaming platforms. Furthermore, major trade publications rarely provide granular weekly data. Consequently, dedicated fans have once again stepped in to bridge the information gap through community-driven data.

One notable example is AnimeCorner, which conducts weekly fan surveys that attract thousands of global participants. During the inaugural week of the season, over 3,626 votes were recorded, seeing Sentenced to Be a Hero claim the top spot. This breakout production—touted as a massive success for Kodansha—managed to eclipse the long-awaited third season of Jujutsu Kaisen, which debuted in second place. Despite the artistic acclaim for its opening sequence and the inevitable memes it sparked, JJK fell short of the visually arresting original series from Studio Kai, which has been praised for its exceptional animation and direction.

While Sentenced to Be a Hero and Jujutsu Kaisen led the pack with 8.36% and 7.13% of the total vote respectively, the second season of Chained Soldier secured a respectable third place with 5.84% for the sci-fi shonen series. The A-1 Pictures special, Kaguya-sama: Love Is War – The Stairs to Adulthood, claimed the fourth position, while My Hero Academia: Vigilantes Season 2 completed the top five with 4.92%.

The ranking for Vigilantes is somewhat unexpected given the fervor surrounding the conclusion of the primary My Hero Academia anime late last year. With 2026 serving as the franchise’s 10th anniversary—a milestone usually synonymous with peak engagement—the prequel’s relatively quiet performance suggests that the main series’ momentum hasn’t fully transitioned to this spin-off.

The lower half of the top ten features Tune In to the Midnight Heart, Tamon’s B-Side, There Was a Cute Girl in the Hero’s Party, So I Tried Confessing to Her, You Can’t Be in a Rom-Com with Your Childhood Friends!, and SHIBOYUGI: Playing Death Games to Put Food on the Table. Of these, Tamon’s B-Side has garnered significant praise for its sharp satire of the idol industry and its clever observations on the dynamics of modern fandom.
