Jack Avery Breaks Silence Following Alleged Murder-for-Hire Plot Involving Ex-Partner
Why Don’t We vocalist Jack Avery has publicly addressed a harrowing situation following the arrest of his former partner, Gabriela Gonzalez. Authorities allege that Gonzalez—with whom Avery shares a daughter—was involved in a conspiracy to orchestrate his murder.
In a candid statement shared on his Instagram Thursday (May 21), Avery revealed the gravity of the situation: “A few days ago, three individuals were taken into custody regarding an alleged plot to end my life. Among those arrested is the mother of my child.”
Avery opened up about the personal toll this ordeal has taken on him and his loved ones. “For years, my family and I have weathered relentless public scrutiny, malicious accusations, and deeply hurtful attacks on our character,” he shared. “I chose to remain quiet, prioritizing the legal process and, most importantly, the well-being of my daughter.”
Reflecting on his current priorities, he added, “My focus is entirely on being the best father I can be.” Avery confirmed he holds sole custody and that his 7-year-old daughter is safe and thriving. He expressed gratitude toward his inner circle and law enforcement for their steadfast support, concluding with a firm message: “Always seek the truth.”
Support poured in from his bandmates, who took to the comments to stand by him. “No one knows even half of what you’ve endured. Your strength is truly remarkable, brother. Love you so much,” Daniel Seavey wrote. Jonah Marais and Corbyn Besson also shared messages of love and support.
The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office issued a press release on May 19 detailing the charges against the group. Gabriela Gonzalez, a social media influencer, was arrested alongside her father, Francisco Gonzalez, and her former boyfriend, Kai Cordery. The trio faces severe charges, including attempted murder, conspiracy to commit murder, and solicitation of murder.
District Attorney Nathan J. Hochman underscored the severity of the allegations, stating, “The defendants are accused of going to extraordinary lengths to secure a hitman. While most parents teach their children to respect the law, this case involves a father who allegedly aided his daughter and her boyfriend in a truly sinister conspiracy.”
Prosecutors allege that the plot originated from a bitter custody dispute. Between 2020 and 2021, Gabriela Gonzalez reportedly sought assistance from her then-partner, Cordery, to utilize the dark web to hire a killer. The investigation escalated when an undercover officer, posing as a hitman, was contacted by Cordery. Allegedly, the conspirators discussed payment terms and proof of the crime, with the father, Francisco, reportedly providing $10,000 to facilitate the deed.
Concurrent with the announcement of these charges, Avery filed for a restraining order against his ex, noting that he had been alerted to the threat by the FBI. If convicted, the three defendants face a potential sentence of 25 years to life in prison.
