Briana White, the voice behind Aerith Gainsborough in Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, has voiced her concerns regarding the encroaching influence of artificial intelligence on the entertainment sector.
During a recent interview, the actress remarked:
“The very things we create are being stolen from us.”
According to White, the corporate mandate to “maximize output while minimizing costs” is in direct opposition to the intrinsic value of creative work. She noted that creators across the globe are grappling with a sense of dread, as their unique talents are treated as free data points for algorithms that can replicate years of refined craft in mere seconds.
For the actress, this issue is deeply personal. Beyond her voice acting career, White is a prominent streamer, meaning thousands of hours of her vocal patterns and digital likeness are available online—making her a prime target for machine learning systems.
She pointed out that her voice and unique delivery—the foundations of her livelihood—could be exploited without her consent to train AI and generate a “synthetic performer.” In her view, this devalues the core of creative identity, effectively replacing the authentic original with a hollow echo of someone else’s labor.
However, White does not dismiss the technology entirely. She likens AI to the advent of the internet, describing it as a tool with the potential to democratize access to knowledge. The fundamental problem, she argues, is that technological progress has far outpaced the discourse on ethics and intellectual property. She believes the industry must urgently establish a framework where creators are recognized and compensated if their work is used to fuel generative models.
