Warner Bros. has officially greenlit production on a feature film reboot of the 1973 sci-fi classic, Westworld.
The screenplay for this new iteration will be penned by David Koepp, known for his work on Jurassic Park. The original premise centers on a futuristic, Wild West-themed amusement park populated by lifelike androids, where affluent guests can indulge their every whim. Chaos ensues when the robots suffer a catastrophic malfunction, leading to a violent uprising against the park’s visitors. The property was also previously adapted into a highly acclaimed HBO series that ran from 2016 to 2022.
Industry insiders suggest that a prominent, yet-to-be-named Hollywood director is currently circling the project. Notably, Steven Spielberg has previously expressed an interest in helming a Western project.
