Hollywood to Adapt Cyberpunk 2077 Video Game
According to reports from Deadline, a live-action adaptation of the hit video game Cyberpunk 2077 is officially in the works. The project is being spearheaded by Paramount Pictures in collaboration with producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura, best known for his work on the Transformers franchise.
Since its highly anticipated launch in 2020, the original game has achieved massive success, selling over 40 million copies worldwide. Set in the sprawling, dystopian metropolis of Night City in the year 2077, the narrative follows V, a mercenary outlaw navigating a dangerous criminal underworld. The story kicks off when V becomes implanted with a biochip containing the digitized consciousness of legendary anarchist terrorist Johnny Silverhand. As Silverhand’s personality begins to overwrite V’s own, the two are forced into an uneasy alliance to challenge the Arasaka Corporation, the monolithic entity that exerts total control over the city.
At this stage, key details regarding the project—including the director, screenwriter, and cast—remain under wraps, and no release date has been announced. While Keanu Reeves provided both the voice and motion capture for Silverhand in the game, it remains unclear whether he will reprise his role for the big-screen adaptation.
This venture underscores Paramount’s growing commitment to video game adaptations; the studio is slated to release a Street Fighter project this October, with a Call of Duty film currently planned for 2028.
