Settling all legal matters and negotiating with regulators could take many months.
On December 5 it was announced that Netflix plans to acquire Warner Bros. The transaction is estimated at $82.7 billion.
The deal covers not only the DC universe and franchises like The Matrix, Harry Potter, Game of Thrones, and Friends, but also HBO’s content library, the HBO Max service, and the entire Warner Bros. Games division. As a result, the following studios would come under Netflix’s control:
- WB Games Montréal (Gotham Knights)
- WB Games Boston (The Lord of the Rings Online)
- TT Games (LEGO games)
- NetherRealm (Mortal Kombat, Injustice)
- Avalanche Software (Hogwarts Legacy)
- Rocksteady (Batman: Arkham series, Suicide Squad)
Netflix has not announced any plans for restructuring or large-scale layoffs.
Netflix and Warner Bros. aim to complete the merger in 2026; however, the process could be delayed if the companies cannot secure regulatory approval.
