Yostar Pictures, together with the original game’s creators, is producing the adaptation of the viral hit.
Yostar Pictures — the studio behind screen adaptations of Arknights and Blue Archive — has unveiled the first trailer for the anime based on the indie sensation Needy Girl Overdose.
Masaoki Nakajima has been appointed director; he previously directed a short film adaptation of Needy Girl Overdose and worked on Blue Archive and the title “Truska, Chulko and the Holy Garter.” The script and overall creative supervision are being handled by Nyarura, one of the original game’s authors.
According to reports, Nyarura personally insisted on writing a fresh script for the 13-episode series. The anime will not be a literal scene-by-scene retelling of the game, but rather a reimagining that introduces new characters and narrative threads.
The television premiere is slated for April 2026, with a limited theatrical screening in Japan planned prior to the broadcast.
Needy Girl Overdose is a visual novel and streamer-management simulator released on Steam in January 2022. The story follows thirty days in the life of a young woman named Ame, who is addicted to validation and aspires to be an “internet angel.” Her online alter ego, OMGkawaiiAngel, is an exaggeratedly cute, attention-grabbing persona she adopts for her streams. Players manage her schedule, help choose stream topics, monitor her mental state, and witness how likes and donations gradually spiral into dependence and madness.
Following its release, the title became a cultural phenomenon in Japan: it has more than 46,000 reviews on Steam, 94% of them positive, and total downloads have exceeded three million.
