Video Games to Play This Weekend – April 17

Weekend Gaming Recommendations

Apologies for the brief check-in, but I’m currently deep in the trenches finalizing my review for Saros, which will be ready for you to dive into on April 24.

In the meantime, I’ve curated a selection of the standout stories that made waves on the site this week, along with some prime recommendations to keep your weekend gaming sessions busy.

Must-Read Highlights:

Game Recommendations for Your Weekend

Pragmata

By Matt Miller

Capcom is on a remarkable winning streak, and Pragmata keeps that momentum alive. This fresh sci-fi IP delivers stunning visuals paired with a poignant narrative about the complexities of fatherhood. The real hook, however, is the fluid combat system that blends third-person shooting with grid-based hacking, forcing players to manage both simultaneously against swarms of robotic adversaries. It’s refreshing to see a major publisher invest in a brand-new concept rather than another sequel. You can read our full verdict here.

Returnal

By Matt Miller

Even years after its debut, Returnal remains a masterclass in atmospheric, high-stakes action. If you haven’t ventured into this roguelite shooter yet, this weekend is the perfect time to start—especially to get you in the right headspace for the upcoming Saros. Both titles share a focus on exploring the deeper, darker corners of the human psyche. Check the PlayStation Store for a discount if you’re looking to grab it on PS5.

Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream

By Charles Harte

This long-awaited sequel brings the chaotic fun of Mii-filled towns to the Switch. While it retains its signature quirkiness, our reviewer Brian Shea notes that the experience feels somewhat hollow without deeper social integration. It’s an enjoyable daily distraction, but it lacks the necessary depth to sustain long-term engagement. Read the full review here.

Mouse: P.I. For Hire

By Charles Harte

After a string of delays, Mouse: P.I. For Hire has finally arrived, and according to our own Billy Givens, it was well worth the wait. Fusing noir-inspired storytelling with “rubber hose” animation and classic boomer-shooter mechanics, this game feels entirely unique. Featuring the voice talents of Troy Baker and a sharp, witty script, it offers a refreshing 1930s-style mystery that is as humorous as it is challenging. See the full critique here.

Marvel Rivals Season 7.5

By Matt Miller

The hero shooter scene continues to evolve with Marvel Rivals. Today’s arrival of Season 7.5 adds the elusive Black Cat to the roster, bringing with her a complex and rewarding moveset for those willing to master her mechanics. Between the new character, fresh cosmetic gear, and balancing updates, it’s a great time to jump back into the action.
