Valve unveiled new hardware for gamers: Steam Controller 2, Steam Machine mini‑PC and Steam Frame VR headset

Valve expands the Steam ecosystem, focusing on versatile solutions for gamers.

Valve has officially unveiled three new Steam-branded devices. In early 2026 the company will introduce an updated Steam Controller, a compact Steam Machine gaming PC, and the Steam Frame virtual reality headset. Each product builds on technologies used in the Steam Deck and runs on SteamOS.

The Steam Controller 2 represents a natural progression of Valve’s portable-console concepts. The gamepad includes next-generation magnetic thumbsticks, trackpads, a gyroscope, and extra rear buttons. It’s compatible with the Steam Deck, PCs, and other devices within the ecosystem. Battery life can reach up to 35 hours on a single charge.

The Steam Machine is a compact, cube-shaped mini-PC measuring roughly 16 centimeters per side. Running SteamOS, it is powered by an AMD Zen 4 CPU (6 cores, 12 threads), RDNA 3 graphics with 28 compute units (around the Radeon RX 7400 tier), and 16 GB of DDR5 memory.

Models will be offered with 512 GB and 2 TB of internal storage, plus microSD support for further expansion. Valve says the system can deliver 4K gaming at 60 frames per second using AMD FSR upscaling.

In addition, Valve will launch a Steam Machine Verified program, similar to Steam Deck Verified, to give users confidence in game compatibility on the new platform.

The third product, Steam Frame, is a standalone VR headset that can stream games from a PC or operate independently. Built around a Snapdragon processor and running SteamOS, the headset sports two LCD panels with 2160×2160 resolution, up to a 144 Hz refresh rate, and a 110° field of view. The Steam Frame ships with 16 GB of RAM and offers 256 GB or 1 TB storage options. Controllers provide six degrees of freedom (6-DoF), finger-position sensors, and magnetic thumbsticks.

All devices are scheduled to release in the first half of 2026.

Despite the wave of new hardware, Valve reiterated that it is not ready to discuss a Steam Deck 2. Engineers say the company is waiting for a true technological leap in performance and energy efficiency before launching a second-generation handheld.
