Valve Suffers Major Build Leak Amid Half-Life 3 Speculation
Dataminers are facing a massive amount of work.
In late August, fans waiting for Half-Life 3 gained a new source of hope. This time, the spark came not from another insider, rumor, or update to one of Valve’s games, but from a major leak of the company’s internal files.
Dataminer and content creator Gabe Follower recently reported that someone leaked 12 TB of internal Valve builds and game assets. The materials date from 2003 through 2013:
The leak includes early versions of Portal 2, Left 4 Dead, CS:GO, F-Stop, and possibly EP3. The community is still examining the materials, so the coming days could be crazy… Among other things, a “Weaponizer” from early Half-Life 2: Episode 3 was discovered there.

Dataminers and regular fans are currently exploring the discovered files. For example, they managed to find an early build of the online shooter Counter-Strike: Global Oriented (CS:GO), which at the time was still a “modified version of Counter-Strike: Source.”
Gabe Follower noted that this leak is not the result of a hacker attack, but rather a basic mistake by Valve itself:
There was no hack: it is confirmed that everything from the “Steam2 Teraleak” was obtained via a public endpoint [server address]. It is Valve’s fault…
