Valor Mortis: ‘An Unheard Farewell’ Quest Walkthrough
“An Unheard Farewell” is an engaging side quest in Valor Mortis that tasks you with assisting a stranded Adjudant. Convinced his reconnaissance squad should have returned by now, the distressed soldier is far too terrified to venture out into the perilous terrain himself—leaving William to pick up the slack.
Here is a complete guide on how to trigger this mission and successfully aid the Adjudant during “An Unheard Farewell” in Valor Mortis.
How to start ‘An Unheard Farewell’ in Valor Mortis
This side quest becomes available during Chapter 2 of Valor Mortis. After you triumph over the grenadier, pause just before you descend the massive, fractured bridge. You will pass a horse-drawn wagon with an Adjudant Sous-Officer sheltered inside. He will loudly demand your attention, making him virtually impossible to miss.

Begin by activating the Demolished Path lantern stationed close to the wagon. From there, follow the descending trail alongside the shattered bridge. Leap carefully across the platforms until you reach the lowest point, then squeeze through the small transport wagon on your left—this is where you acquire your sidearm.

Fight your way through the winding caverns, clear a brief outdoor platforming sequence, and locate the purple biomass hindering the lift mechanisms. Just like before, neutralize the threat by shooting the glowing orbs (this time, you will need to target two).
With the elevator fully functional, you could simply ascend to progress the campaign—doing so, however, means abandoning the side quest. Instead, head downwards and search for a narrow ledge tucked away between the tunnel entrance and the uppermost level.
The mouth of this concealed cavern is sealed by thick, web-like residue. Equip your fire transmutation ability to incinerate the barrier. Once inside, prepare yourself to confront an elite soldier.

Focus on executing precise parries to shatter his posture and leave him vulnerable. When his health bar dwindles, finish him off with a well-placed gunshot to the head.
Before vacating the grotto, examine the nearby letter to uncover the grim fate of the missing squad. Make sure to plunder the treasure chest for pure blade material before backtracking along the main route to the Adjudant Sous-Officer.
Whether you choose to be completely honest about his comrades or offer comforting lies makes little difference—the Adjudant refuses to accept their loss regardless. For completing “An Unheard Farewell” in Valor Mortis, your reward is the coveted Sleight of Hand amber, a passive upgrade that accelerates firearm reload speeds and quickens weapon transitions.
