Back in August 2004, mere months before the highly anticipated debut of GTA: San Andreas, the development team provided kikizo.com with a five-minute compilation of early, pre-release gameplay footage. For years, these clips remained tucked away, eventually becoming a piece of lost gaming history.

That changed yesterday when the website’s founder unearthed the original archive and uploaded it to YouTube in response to a direct request from a fan.

While the visual elements in this footage align closely with the final retail release, eagle-eyed observers can spot subtle distinctions. Perhaps most notable is the use of a red cross to signify building entrances—a stark departure from the iconic yellow inverted cones that ultimately defined the game’s navigation. Despite its historical value, the footage offers little in the way of groundbreaking discoveries, as these minor design shifts had already been documented by dedicated enthusiasts.
