On July 28, Vincent Pierre Claude Belorgey, globally celebrated as the visionary DJ Kavinsky, tragically passed away at his Parisian residence at the age of 50. Reports indicate that the acclaimed French house and synthwave pioneer had been suffering from severe migraines in the days leading up to his untimely death, with a stroke currently suspected as the primary cause.

Spanning a remarkable two-decade career, Belorgey cemented his musical legacy through two critically acclaimed studio albums and a rich catalog of timeless singles. Among his crowning achievements was the hypnotic anthem “Nightcall,” which served as the defining title track for Nicolas Winding Refn’s 2011 neo-noir masterpiece Drive, starring Ryan Gosling.

Kavinsky’s cinematic, retro-futuristic soundscapes also left an indelible mark on the gaming world, frequently soundtracking virtual adventures. His iconic track “Testarossa (SebastiAn Remix)” became a fan-favorite staple on the Electro-Choc radio dial in GTA 4.

Meanwhile, the soaring melodies of “Wayfarer” fueled the high-speed nocturnal street racing of Midnight Club: Los Angeles.
