Universal Demands Budget Cuts for the New “Fast & Furious”

Universal Pictures executives are pressing to cut the budget for the upcoming Fast & Furious instalment by $140 million, bringing it down to $200 million — they say that’s the only way the picture can viably be released. By contrast, the previous Fast & Furious carried a $340 million budget but underperformed at the global box office.

At present, the creative team is actively seeking about $50 million in savings, despite the fact that no script has been completed and no lead actors have been cast.

If producers can reach an agreement with Universal, filming would begin in mid‑2026 and the film is expected to hit theaters in 2027.
