The UK Government has commissioned an investigation into the affect that Brexit may have on the British financial system, with the videogames trade named final week as one of many sectors thought-about. Speaker John Bercow was responding to a query by the shadow Brexit minister, Matthew Pennycook, on Monday. Exactly what data the Government is holding just isn’t clear. Pennycook requested his query after the Brexit Secretary, David Davis, wrote to the Brexit select committee saying “it is not the case that 58 sectoral impact assessments exist.”
Rather, the Government’s evaluation is “a wide mix of qualitative and quantitative analysis, contained in a range of documents developed at different times since the referendum[…] It is not, nor has it ever been, a series of discrete impact assessments examining the quantitative impact of Brexit on these sectors.”
Given this, Davis says, like Leadsom, that the Government will want time to organize its data for launch, so do not count on something substantial by the tip of at the moment.
The 58 sectors – which Davis estimates represent 88% of the UK financial system – are named in his response to a report by Baroness Verma final week, and embody videogames.
