Taylor Swift’s guest appearance on her now-husband Travis Kelce’s podcast, New Heights, was destined to be iconic. Beyond the surprise announcement of her chart-topping album, The Life of a Showgirl, the episode provided a rare, candid glimpse into the star’s private life. Little did the pop icon know at the time, that recording session served as the backdrop for one of the most significant chapters of her life: her engagement.
In the latest episode released this past Wednesday (July 8), Travis and his brother and co-host, Jason Kelce, took a trip down memory lane to revisit highlights from the previous season of New Heights. “Kicking things off with Taylor was truly epic,” the Kansas City Chiefs tight end remarked.
“During that recording, I was preoccupied with a secret plan—I knew I was going to ask her to be my wife shortly after we wrapped,” he shared. “That season opener will always be etched in my memory. It was an incredibly special moment.”
The August episode, which remains the most-watched upload on the New Heights channel, featured Swift discussing her journey toward falling in love with Travis in 2023, her ongoing mission to reclaim her musical catalog, and even her newfound hobby of baking sourdough bread. As it turns out, the Grotesquerie actor had orchestrated the interview to keep Swift occupied while a team prepared a romantic proposal setting nearby, where he popped the question the moment the cameras stopped rolling.
“Your English teacher and your gym teacher are officially getting married,” the 14-time Grammy winner jubilantly announced on Instagram shortly thereafter.
This reflection comes just days after the couple’s spectacular wedding in New York City. The star-studded affair took place on Friday (July 3) at Madison Square Garden, hosting roughly 1,000 guests. The ceremony, officiated by Adam Sandler, featured heartfelt vows—some of which the Eras Tour superstar reportedly sang—followed by an unforgettable reception with surprise performances by legends Stevie Nicks and Paul McCartney.
While attendees have kept much of the wedding under wraps, details have trickled out: Ashley Smith, sister of Chiefs player Trey Smith, shared that she successfully caught the bouquet of sweet peas and Queen Anne’s lace. Other guests noted the festive atmosphere, which included raffle games offering high-end prizes—most notably a $6,400 Chanel handbag won by Jackie Tranquill, wife of teammate Drue Tranquill.
