Toei Company, the Japanese entertainment titan celebrated for its influential tokusatsu franchises like Super Sentai (the foundation for Power Rangers) and the global animation powerhouses One Piece and Dragon Ball, has officially announced its venture into the video game industry.
In a formal press release, the company confirmed the launch of Toei Games, an in-house publishing division. Fumio Fushimura, Toei’s president and CEO, stated that the initiative is designed to establish gaming as a “new pillar” of the company’s portfolio, sitting alongside their traditional staples of film, television, and live events. However, fans hoping for a flood of titles featuring beloved characters from Dragon Ball or One Piece should temper their expectations—the studio’s focus lies elsewhere.
“Toei Games aims to forge entirely original intellectual properties from the ground up rather than relying on our existing library,” Fushimura explained. “We intend to channel the technical proficiency and creative expertise honed through decades of video production into this new sector, offering players around the world a unique brand of entertainment exclusive to Toei.”
The company also unveiled the branding for its new gaming arm: a pixel-art homage to its legendary opening sequence. The logo reimagines the iconic sight of waves crashing against the rocks near Cape Inubo—a visual hallmark that has preceded Toei films since 1958. This stylized graphic was crafted in collaboration with the Japanese developer Kairosoft Inc.
This strategic expansion coincides with Toei’s 75th anniversary and is a cornerstone of the company’s “Toei New Wave 2033” roadmap, which focuses on deepening its global market presence. Toei Games intends to begin its rollout with PC titles via Steam in 2026, with plans to eventually transition to major consoles, including PlayStation, Switch, and Xbox.
The wait for the company’s inaugural gaming project will be brief, as Toei Games is scheduled to announce its first title on April 24.
