Bones Studio President Explains Decision to Adapt “Marriagetoxin”

The second season of the anime adaptation of the manga by writer Joumyaku and artist Mizuki Yoda remains scheduled for the winter 2027 season.

Bones President and Producer Masahiko Minami discussed why the studio decided to adapt the manga “Marrietoxin”. During a panel at Otakon 2026, he highlighted the work’s unusual approach to action and its memorable characters. Minami was particularly interested in how the relationships between characters take the story beyond a typical action show and give the studio more room to experiment with animation:

Ryotaro Okiayu, who voices the Master and serves as the narrator, also participated in the discussion. According to him, a comedic story that combines many genres hides behind the serious premise:

“Marrietoxin” follows Hikaru Gero, the heir to an influential clan of poison masters. His family demands that he marry and continue the bloodline, threatening otherwise to shift this duty onto his sister. To protect her, Hikaru asks marriage swindler Mei Kinosaki for help and sets out to find a suitable bride.

The first season consisted of 13 episodes and covered the Water, Sound, and Beast Master story arcs. The second season of “Marrietoxin” will begin airing in January 2027.
