Tina Knowles Admits She Got Emotional Watching Beyoncé and Blue Ivy at the 2026 Met Gala

The 2026 Met Gala proved to be a profoundly touching experience for everyone involved, but for Tina Knowles, it was a particularly sentimental occasion.

During an appearance on the Today show this Tuesday, May 5, Knowles discussed her latest bestselling memoir, Matriarch. Before diving into her literary work, she reflected on the previous evening, where she watched her daughter, global superstar Beyoncé, and granddaughter, Blue Ivy Carter, grace the Met Gala red carpet.

“I found myself deeply moved, even shedding a few tears,” Knowles admitted. Watching 14-year-old Blue Ivy navigate the spotlight so confidently instantly transported her back to Beyoncé’s own first red carpet appearance as a 15-year-old. “Witnessing her out there, appearing so poised and radiant, truly brought me to tears.”

Referencing one of her daughter’s iconic anthems, Knowles remarked that the entire experience felt like a profound sense of “déjà vu.”

Beyoncé’s presence at this year’s gala marked a significant milestone; it was her first time attending the prestigious event in a decade. This year, she took on a distinguished leadership role, serving as a co-chair for the 2026 gala alongside Nicole Kidman—who also attended with her teenage daughter—Venus Williams, and fashion icon Anna Wintour.

It was a true family celebration, with Beyoncé arriving alongside her husband, Jay-Z, and their eldest daughter. While the Met Gala strictly enforces an 18+ age policy, an exception was reportedly made for the children of this year’s co-chairs, allowing Blue Ivy a rare opportunity to share in the historic evening.
