Timur Bekmambetov responds to the failure of “War of the Worlds”

Timur Bekmambetov has weighed in on the resounding failure of the contained sci-fi thriller War of the Worlds, which starred Ice Cube. The film famously became a primary target of the Golden Raspberry Awards, though Bekmambetov noted that the backlash did not come as a surprise to him.
He emphasized that, in his view, the strong viewership figures the movie garnered on Amazon carry far more weight than any negative critical reception.
This latest adaptation of the H.G. Wells classic was met with icy indifference from critics, holding a mere 4% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. According to Ice Cube, director Rich Lee was conspicuously absent from the set during production. Bekmambetov served as an executive producer on the project.
