The music community is mourning the loss of Dylan Carter, a standout contestant from season 24 of The Voice, who tragically passed away following a car accident on Saturday, April 25, in Colleton County, South Carolina. His passing was confirmed by The Local Voice, a non-profit organization he co-founded in 2024 to support women navigating their battle with breast cancer.
“It is with profound sadness that we announce the death of Dylan Carter,” the organization shared in a heartfelt statement on social media. “Dylan was the cornerstone of our mission. He possessed a deep conviction that every voice has inherent value, and he embodied that belief in everything he did.”
Moncks Corner Mayor Thomas Hamilton Jr. also paid tribute to the late artist, noting, “Our community is heartbroken by this sudden loss. Dylan was an incredibly gifted singer who brought joy to our local events through his performances. His warmth and genuine character left a lasting impact on all who knew him, and his presence will be deeply missed.”
In light of this tragedy, the town has officially canceled its upcoming “Music on Main” event, where Carter was scheduled to perform this Monday.
Carter first rose to prominence on The Voice at age 20, where his powerful audition performance of Whitney Houston’s “I Look to You” earned a rare four-chair turn. He later shared that the performance was a poignant tribute to his mother, who had passed away the year before. After choosing to join Reba McEntire’s team, Carter enjoyed a memorable run on the series. Following the news of his death, McEntire expressed her condolences on Instagram, writing: “We will miss Dylan deeply. He was a brilliant, radiant talent who brought so much light to The Voice. Rest in peace, my dear friend.”
