The Rolling Stones Announce New Album, ‘Foreign Tongues’

The Rolling Stones are officially entering a new musical chapter. On Tuesday, May 5, the legendary rockers revealed that their 25th studio album, titled Foreign Tongues, is set for release.
Arriving on July 10, the 14-track collection sees core members Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, and Ronnie Wood teaming up once again. The project is bolstered by an impressive array of guest talent, featuring contributions from Paul McCartney, Steve Winwood, Robert Smith of The Cure, and Chad Smith of the Red Hot Chili Peppers.
In anticipation of the release, the band has debuted two tracks: the album’s fiery opener, “Rough and Twisted,” and the lead single, “In the Stars.” The entire record was captured in less than a month at West London’s Metropolis Studios—a whirlwind process captured in a new album trailer that shows the band both focused and having fun. Andrew Watt, who previously collaborated on Hackney Diamonds, returns to the production helm.
“It was an incredibly intense few weeks,” Jagger remarked in a press statement. “We moved as fast as we possibly could.”
Ronnie Wood echoed the sentiment, praising the group’s dynamic: “The atmosphere was wonderfully creative. The whole band was on top form, and more often than not, we nailed everything in just one take. I really hope listeners enjoy it.”
The album also features longtime bassist Darryl Jones and drummer Steve Jordan, who has been with the band since the passing of Charlie Watts in 2021. Notably, the Stones have found a poignant way to include their late bandmate, incorporating rare drum recordings from one of Watts’ final studio sessions into the new project.
“It was fantastic to be back in London, soaking up that local energy,” Richards noted. “It was a month of concentrated punch. For me, it’s all about the pure enjoyment of it. I feel truly blessed to still be doing this, and I hope it keeps going for a long time.”
This release follows the band’s 2023 effort, Hackney Diamonds, which peaked at No. 3 on the Billboard 200. Over their storied career, The Rolling Stones have placed 61 projects on the chart, including nine chart-topping albums.
