The Pokémon Company Announces 30th Anniversary TCG Set That Will Likely Be Impossible to Find

Pokémon TCG 30th Anniversary Collection

To commemorate three decades of the franchise, The Pokémon Company has unveiled the “30th Celebration” trading card game expansion. This landmark set is poised to be a standout for collectors, as every single card in the collection features a premium foil finish. Beyond the shimmering aesthetics, the set introduces 30 unique Pikachu illustrations, avant-garde “futuristic rare” cards featuring Mewtwo and Mew by artist Yoshirotten, and a curated selection of iconic legacy cards reimagined alongside powerful new Pokémon EX entries.

Scheduled for a simultaneous worldwide release on September 16, every card will be distinguished by a special 30th Anniversary watermark, echoing the commemorative style of the previous 25th-anniversary run. As someone who has stepped back from active collecting but still enjoys picking up packs for family, I can’t help but feel a twinge of apprehension. The current retail landscape is notoriously difficult; witnessing self-interested scalpers swarm local stores hours before restocks—often creating hostile environments for casual fans and parents alike—has soured the experience for many. While the 30th Celebration set looks visually stunning, I worry that the intense speculation and market hype will once again overshadow the joy of the hobby.

Following the monumental milestone of February 27, which marked 30 years since the original release of Pokémon Red, Blue, and Green in Japan, the brand has been in high gear. This includes the October launch of Pokémon Legends: Z-A and the recent reveal of Generation 10, Pokémon Winds and Waves. The 30th Celebration TCG set serves as the latest pillar in this year-long anniversary festivities.
