This year and next are shaping up to be truly unforgettable for enthusiasts of the franchise. A magnificent remake of the 1998 classic Ocarina of Time—boasting revamped modern visuals, fluid free camera mechanics, and fully voiced narrative cutscenes—is slated for release this November, prompting a massive wave of excitement to step foot back into the legendary kingdom of Hyrule. Meanwhile, securing a limited Zelda 40th-anniversary edition of the Nintendo Switch 2 has proved nearly impossible due to unprecedented global demand.

While the iconic series first began with The Legend of Zelda back in 1986, it was Ocarina of Time that genuinely defined an era of gaming, maintaining an astounding Metacritic score of 99 decades after its initial launch. Even so, keen observers have long pointed out that the original masterpiece rarely ventures beyond Link’s immediate viewpoint to explore the inner lives of supporting characters—an omission a forthcoming novel is set to rectify.

Echoes of Hyrule is a reimagining of Ocarina of Time

Scheduled for publication in May 2027, The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Hyrule reimagines the legendary journey of the Hero of Time through the eyes of various non-player characters who traditionally remained in the background. Spanning 332 pages and structured chronologically, the narrative unfolds before the opening acts of the video game and extends well beyond its grand finale, thoughtfully examining the lasting fallout experienced by Hyrule’s populace. While Link naturally remains a vital presence—as omitting him entirely would defy logic—he functions less as the central narrator and more as a catalyst propelling the dramatic arcs of those around him.

Crafted as a premium hardcover book featuring sturdy thread-sewn binding, Echoes of Hyrule will hit shelves in two distinct physical configurations. The Standard Deluxe Edition retails for €25.95 (approximately $29.28 USD) and bundles the full 332-page volume alongside an Ocarina of Time GP Card art print and a pair of custom bookmarks. For passionate collectors, the Hero of Time Edition commands €35.95 (roughly $40.49 USD), incorporating all contents of the standard tier plus collectible bonuses such as a replica Ocarina manual, a detailed character map, exclusive art cards, and an individually numbered certificate of authenticity.

It is important to emphasize that this literary project is independently produced by Game Press and bears no official affiliation with Nintendo. Authored by lifelong franchise devotee Anna-Victòria Teixidó under the pseudonym “Kurusonna,” the publication also benefits from a compelling prologue penned by Carlos “Seijurou” Martínez, evocative interior artwork by María “Maiku” Lozano, and a striking cover illustration by Víctor Polonio. Both editions of Echoes of Hyrule are currently available for preorder directly via the Game Press portal.
