While the isekai genre is often criticized for being oversaturated, That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime has maintained an iron grip on the community’s imagination since Fuze’s light novel series first debuted in 2013. The anime adaptation, which launched in 2018, has further solidified this legacy, expanding into a massive franchise that now includes original net animations and two cinematic features.

The narrative follows Satoru Mikami, a mundane corporate worker whose life ends abruptly following a random stabbing. Instead of eternal rest, he finds himself transported to a magical realm, reborn as a seemingly harmless Slime. Adopting the name Rimuru Tempest, he begins a transformative journey, navigating the complexities of his gelatinous new form while attempting to build a society where his diverse subjects can thrive.

A recent livestream brought exciting news for the fanbase, revealing that the upcoming fourth season will be an expansive production spanning five cours. The first two segments are slated to begin airing in April 2026. The season is officially scheduled to premiere on April 3 on Crunchyroll. A recently released trailer emphasizes the escalating friction between the Jura-Tempest Federation and several opportunistic factions seeking to dismantle Rimuru’s progress.

Though Rimuru envisions a world defined by the harmony between humans and monsters, his diplomatic ideals are far from universally accepted. The new season introduces formidable antagonists like Granbell Rosso—a former Hero and leader of the Five Elders of Siltrosso—alongside his ambitious granddaughter, Mariabell Rosso.

Mariabell’s appearance in the trailer suggests a shift in stakes; her insatiable greed introduces a volatile element to the series’ geopolitical landscape. While That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime is celebrated for its balance of lighthearted moments and complex world-building, the fourth season appears to be adopting a more somber, high-stakes atmosphere. Mariabell’s quest for total world domination places her directly at odds with Rimuru’s peaceful Federation. As the safety of Tempest hangs in the balance, viewers can expect a season defined by shifting alliances and inevitable military clashes.

The trailer also offers a preview of the opening theme, “Esoragoto” by Eir Aoi, which underscores the brewing conspiracies. In addition to the series return, fans can look forward to the second feature film, That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime the Movie: Tears of the Azure Sea, which arrives in North American theaters on May 1. Until then, the anticipation builds for the emergence of a new Hero and the arrival of a hard-won peace.
