The First Trailer for the Resident Evil Movie Directed by Zach Cregger Has Arrived

The cinematic history of Capcom’s legendary survival horror saga, Resident Evil, has been extensive, to say the least. While opinions on the quality of these adaptations remain fiercely debated among fans, a fresh perspective is arriving this November. Sony Pictures Entertainment has tapped Zach Cregger—the visionary filmmaker behind Barbarian and Weapons—to helm a brand-new take on the franchise.

The debut teaser for the film, simply titled Resident Evil, premiered today. Audiences shouldn’t necessarily expect a direct translation of the source material; the trailer suggests a departure from the established lore, featuring no clear connections to the games’ iconic characters, settings, or specific narrative arcs. However, the tone remains unmistakably Resident Evil. We see a protagonist thrust into a nightmarish gauntlet, frantically navigating desolate urban environments and rural landscapes while fending off waves of the undead with heavy-duty firepower.

Given Cregger’s impressive track record with high-tension horror, this fresh approach is shaping up to be an exhilarating experience. I’m genuinely excited to see how this vision unfolds on the big screen.
