The Chicks Celebrate 20th Anniversary of ‘Taking the Long Way’ with New Tour: ‘Still Not Ready to Make Nice’

The Chicks are officially heading back on tour, marking the 20th anniversary of their seminal, Grammy-adorned record, Taking the Long Way.

The trio broke the news via Instagram, teasing the announcement with their signature defiant spirit: “Still not ready to make nice.”

Spanning 16 shows, the Taking the Long Way anniversary tour kicks off on September 30 at Detroit’s Fox Theatre. The run includes major stops in New York City, Chicago, Seattle, and Nashville, before concluding with a two-night residency at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood on November 1 and 2.

This tour honors the enduring legacy of their 2006 masterpiece, which dominated the Billboard 200 and swept the Grammy Awards, securing trophies for album, record, and song of the year. Fueled by the powerhouse lead single “Not Ready to Make Nice,” the album served as a bold artistic statement from Natalie Maines, Martie Maguire, and Emily Strayer. It was a raw response to the intense public and political backlash they endured following Maines’ 2003 criticism of the Iraq War and then-President George W. Bush during a London performance.

Following a 14-year studio hiatus, the band returned in 2020 with Gaslighter. They later reconnected with global audiences during their expansive 2022-2023 world tour, which covered stages across North America, Australia, and Europe.
