The Chemical Brothers’ “Go” Experiences Massive Streaming Resurgence Following Netflix’s Apex
The Chemical Brothers have seen a dramatic surge in interest for their 2015 hit “Go,” driven by its high-profile inclusion in the hit Netflix thriller, Apex.
According to data from Luminate, the track experienced a staggering 429% jump in streaming volume the week after the film’s April 24 debut. To put the spike in perspective, the song garnered 92,000 total on-demand U.S. streams from April 17 to April 23, a figure that climbed to 487,000 between April 24 and April 30.
Before Apex premiered, “Go” was maintaining a steady daily average of roughly 13,000 to 14,000 streams. By April 30, that daily total had skyrocketed to 127,000. Additionally, the track has re-entered the conversation, currently sitting at No. 5 on the Dance Digital Song Sales chart.
The song serves as a pivotal element in a tense scene within Apex, where the antagonist, Ben (Taron Egerton), informs the protagonist, Sasha (Charlize Theron), that he will begin hunting her as soon as the track finishes playing.
In a recent conversation with Decider, director Baltasar Kormákur revealed that Egerton was the driving force behind using the song. “The original script just called for a ten-minute countdown,” Kormákur explained. “We decided it would be more compelling to have him put on a song, and the chase would begin when it ended. We went through various ideas, but I wanted to avoid anything that felt too disco-inspired.”
“Taron suggested this track by The Chemical Brothers,” Kormákur continued. “Initially, there was some resistance, with some people feeling it wasn’t the right fit. I insisted we try it, and if it failed, we would pivot. Once Taron performed the scene with the music, the entire crew was convinced—it was absolutely perfect.”
Apex is currently dominating the platform as the No. 1 film on Netflix’s global weekly top 10 list.
Featuring guest vocals from Q-Tip, “Go” was originally released in May 2015 as the second single from The Chemical Brothers’ eighth studio album, Born in the Echoes. Upon its initial release, the track enjoyed a brief three-week run on the Hot Dance/Electronic Songs chart, peaking at No. 40 in August 2015.
