The Best-Selling PS5 Game Hasn’t Been Released Yet — PlayStation Head
The PlayStation 5 has reached its fifth anniversary on the market, and Sony’s leadership insists the console’s best years are still ahead.
In a conversation with the BBC, Sony vice president Eric Lempel claimed that “the best-selling game for PS5 hasn’t been released yet.” He didn’t name a specific title, but the comment immediately set off a flurry of speculation among gamers.
Most often, Grand Theft Auto VI is mentioned. Its release was recently moved to November 19, 2026. The franchise has long posted staggering numbers: GTA V alone sold more than 220 million copies, and each update adds millions more. There is little doubt the sixth entry will also be a huge success.
However, some analysts believe Lempel was referring to a different project — Marvel’s Wolverine from Insomniac Games, the studio behind the Spider-Man series. The game is expected in fall 2026 and will be a PS5 exclusive. Forecasts suggest Wolverine could even surpass the sales record set by Spider-Man 2.
