Matt Reeves has officially pulled back the curtain on the cast for The Batman Part 2, confirming that two cinematic powerhouses from the Marvel Universe—Scarlett Johansson and Sebastian Stan—are joining the gritty landscape of Gotham City.

Production on the highly anticipated sequel is officially underway, and director Matt Reeves has been sharing the excitement directly with fans on X. On May 14, he teased the new arrivals with cryptic posts. He first captioned a GIF of Scarlett Johansson from Under the Skin with, “Next exit, Gotham… Welcome.” Shortly after, he confirmed Sebastian Stan’s participation with a second post, stating, “In a Gotham state of mind… Welcome.”

While industry whispers from outlets like Deadline and The Hollywood Reporter had previously hinted at their involvement, DC Studios had remained silent until now. Reeves’ confirmation lends fresh credibility to earlier industry rumors, fueling speculation that other high-profile casting reports, such as the potential inclusion of Charles Dance, may also prove true.

For Johansson, this marks a major transition. Best known as Black Widow in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, her character’s conclusion in Avengers: Endgame makes this the perfect juncture to pivot toward the DC universe.
