Tencent Suspends “Light of Motiram” Ad Campaign Until Dispute with Sony Is Resolved
Both parties have agreed to postpone the case proceedings.
Sony Interactive Entertainment and Tencent have agreed to delay the court proceedings in a lawsuit in which Sony alleges the Chinese conglomerate copied elements of the Horizon series for its upcoming title, Light of Motiram.
According to a recent court order, the parties “have been negotiating to resolve the current dispute.” Consequently, Sony and Tencent agreed to extend filing deadlines and push back the hearing date — subject to strict conditions proposed by Sony.
Key terms of the postponement:
- The delay cannot be used by Tencent to argue that Sony unduly delayed in filing its preliminary injunction motion.
- Until the preliminary injunction motion is resolved, any new advertising and public testing of Light of Motiram is prohibited.
- The release of Light of Motiram may not be scheduled earlier than the fourth quarter of 2027.
- Tencent withdraws its request for expedited disclosure of evidence related to the injunction motion.
The revised schedule is now:
- Tencent’s response to Sony’s preliminary injunction motion — by December 17, 2025 (previously December 3).
- Sony’s reply brief — by January 2, 2026.
- A joint hearing on the preliminary injunction and Tencent’s motion to dismiss is set for January 29, 2026 (moved from January 15), before Judge Jacqueline Corley.
