A heartwarming act of childhood whimsy has captured the internet’s attention—and moved Taylor Swift to action. A viral TikTok video featuring a creative paper airplane delivery recently melted the hearts of millions, reaching the superstar herself.
As reported by People this Tuesday, Swift surprised eight-year-old Madeline from Ohio with a personalized acoustic guitar and a touching handwritten note. The young girl rose to viral fame in April after her mother shared a video of her sending a musical request to her neighbor, musician Ethan Hayes, via a paper plane launched over their shared fence.
At the time, Hayes happily obliged, serenading the young fan with a rendition of “Love Story.” Thanks to Swift’s generous intervention, Madeline now has the tools to start her own musical journey.
“I was so touched that you asked your neighbor to play my song for you,” Swift wrote in her note, which accompanied a guitar featuring a custom image of the singer. “You brought the biggest smile to my face. I’m sending you this guitar in case you ever want to learn to play it yourself!”
It turns out the surprise extended to the neighbor as well. Hayes revealed that Swift’s team reached out after seeing the viral moment. “They told me, ‘Taylor saw your video and wants to send you a gift—don’t tell anyone until it arrives,’” he shared. “I was expecting maybe a poster, but receiving guitars was absolutely surreal.”
Madeline’s mother, Natalie Hulec, explained that her daughter opted for the paper plane method because she was far too shy to approach the neighbor directly. After some initial troubleshooting—where the girl’s stepfather had to call out to alert Hayes to the airborne note—the request was successfully delivered.
“As a musician, I get requests constantly,” Hayes noted. “But ‘Love Story’ is one I always have ready to go in my repertoire.”
Swift, who dominated the charts for 12 weeks last autumn with The Life of a Showgirl, continues to prove that even in the midst of global superstardom, she remains deeply connected to her fans’ most personal moments.
