Target Officially Launches New Pokémon System, Changing the Game for Collectors
Target can be a convenient place to buy Pokémon cards, but securing popular products is often frustrating. New items typically appear on weekdays after midnight, leaving fans waiting late into the night only to watch bots buy up inventory almost instantly. A new drawing system could offer shoppers another way to get their hands on cards.
How does Target’s Pokémon drawing work?
After months of rumors, Target has quietly introduced a lottery-style system on its website. Similar to Walmart’s approach, it gives shoppers a set period to register their interest in a product. Once entries close, Target randomly selects winners.
How does Target’s system differ from Walmart’s?
Target’s entry window appears to be longer than Walmart’s, which typically lasts just an hour or two. Winners also aren’t charged automatically. Instead, they receive a deadline by which they must complete their purchase.
The first product offered through the system is a Scarlet & Violet: Destined Rivals three-pack blister, priced at $14.99. Target may be testing the process with a smaller product before potentially extending it to sought-after releases, such as the 30th Anniversary collection or Ascended Heroes. Entries for the initial drawing close on November 4.
A longer entry period gives more fans time to participate, although it could also give scalpers more time to create additional accounts. The separate purchase step is a welcome feature for shoppers who enter multiple drawings to improve their chances: If they win more than once, they can choose which products to buy.
After entering a drawing, shoppers should receive an email confirmation. Target says products purchased through the system cannot be returned or exchanged. Shoppers who aren’t selected may have another opportunity if additional inventory becomes available.
You can enter Target’s first Pokémon drawing on the product page. If the option doesn’t appear, try updating the Target app.
