Subnautica 2 Gets Experimental Steam Branch with Less Frequent Updates
Developers will test updates before a full release.
In August, studio Unknown Worlds Entertainment returned to Subnautica 2. The developers reached out to PC players on Steam and introduced an “experimental branch.”
This is an optional version of the game that allows players to check out updates for Subnautica 2 prior to their full release. The developers warned that saves from the “experimental branch” are incompatible with the main version of the game, so save files cannot be imported or exported.
Saves will be stored in different locations, meaning that while a user plays the experimental version, they will not see their main saves in the game.

The Unknown Worlds Entertainment team clarified that the experimental branch of Subnautica 2 will not be updated on a daily basis, as fans of previous entries in the franchise might expect. Updates are expected to be made available for testing shortly before their official release:
Currently, our experimental branch will not be updated daily, as was the case with Subnautica and Below Zero. Builds will be posted to let players check out upcoming updates shortly before they are released for all players. We may also use it to preview smaller patches and fixes between major updates.
Players will be able to access the experimental branch of Subnautica 2 on Steam through the game properties in the beta versions section.
