Stranger Things Season 5 Is Netflix’s Biggest English‑Language Premiere and the Second‑Largest Premiere in Streaming History
The final season of ‘Stranger Things’ ranks only behind ‘Squid Game’.
Netflix announced that the fifth season of ‘Stranger Things’ has set a record for viewership among English-language series. According to the platform’s internal data, the show drew 59.6 million views in its first week after release. That figure surpasses the previous leader — ‘Wednesday’, whose debut season opened in 2022 with 50.1 million views.
Within five days of its premiere on November 26, the fifth season entered Netflix’s top 10 in all 93 countries where the service tracks viewing, and claimed the number-one spot in 90 of them.
In the overall premiere rankings the season is second only to the Korean hit ‘Squid Game’, whose second season gathered 68 million views in a week. The statistics, however, record only absolute totals and do not reflect differences in release strategy: all seven episodes of ‘Squid Game’ season two were released at once, while only the first four of eight episodes of ‘Stranger Things’ season five are currently available.
The next three episodes will be released on December 26. The final episode will be available on January 1, 2026 at 4:00 a.m. Moscow time.
