Storm Clouds Over a Blooming Garden: Creator of Kingdom Come Criticizes EU Decision to Restrict Children’s Access to Social Platforms

Daniel Vavra did not hold back when reacting to the news.

On November 26 the European Parliament adopted a resolution by an overwhelming majority (483 in favor, 92 against and 86 abstentions) calling for a minimum age of 16 for children’s access to social networks, video platforms and AI chatbots.

Under the resolution, children aged 13 to 16 would be allowed to use those platforms only with written consent from a parent or guardian. Confidential age‑verification methods are proposed — for example, an EU digital wallet that would protect users’ personal data. A full ban on access to these services is proposed for children under 13.

The resolution also places responsibility on the executives of technology platforms for breaches of these rules.

Companies such as TikTok, Snapchat, YouTube and other social platforms could face sanctions if they systematically ignore the new standards.

Game designer, Warhorse co‑founder and creator of the Kingdom Come: Deliverance duology Daniel Vavra criticized the European Parliament’s decision on his X account.

*** censorship. A sad day for the EU. Denmark is pushing us toward blanket internet censorship under the guise of protecting children. This morning the European Council adopted a chat‑control law (despite resistance from the Czech Republic). Now the European Parliament has approved a resolution calling to deny children under 16 access to the internet.
