Remedy Explains Why Control Resonant Became an Action RPG
The game will release on September 24 for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.
CONTROL Resonant Senior Level Designer Ari Makkonen has detailed key features of the upcoming game and explained why Remedy decided to change the genre of the series.
According to Makkonen, turning CONTROL into a full-fledged action RPG was done primarily to give players greater freedom. The developers want to provide users with as many options as possible regarding how to play through the game and develop the main character.
In CONTROL Resonant, players will be able to switch between different unlockable forms of the Aberrant, gain new paranatural abilities after defeating bosses, and use a talent tree and artifacts. Almost all character progression elements can be freely reallocated.
However, players will not be able to acquire absolutely every ability in a single playthrough. To address this, Remedy added a New Game+ mode that will allow players to continue experimenting with already unlocked capabilities and build significantly more character variations.
Makkonen also discussed how the Manhattan version is structured in CONTROL Resonant. Despite the large size of the game world, the developers are not building a traditional open world. Instead, the city is divided into interconnected zones, each featuring its own fixed time of day and weather conditions.
There will be no full day-night cycle in the game, which is a deliberate decision by Remedy. This ensures that each location retains a specific atmosphere while giving the developers greater control over events in particular districts.
