Former President Barack Obama has curated a powerhouse lineup of legendary artists to commemorate the highly anticipated unveiling of the Obama Presidential Center in Chicago. The grand opening ceremony, scheduled for Thursday, June 18, will be broadcast via a global livestream beginning at noon ET.
The star-studded roster features a diverse array of musical titans, including U2’s Bono and The Edge, Bruce Springsteen, Christina Aguilera, and Stevie Wonder. They will be joined by influential voices such as Pearl Jam’s Eddie Vedder, Jennifer Hudson, John Legend, Tems, Common, and The Roots.
Beyond the headline performances, the celebration will spotlight youth empowerment with appearances by the nonprofit organization Guitars Over Guns, alongside musical contributions from the Illinois Army National Guard and Uniting Voices Chicago. Former President Obama and former First Lady Michelle Obama are both slated to deliver remarks. The foundation teased the announcement on social media with a playful, animated group chat capturing the artists’ enthusiasm; Springsteen marveled at the occasion, while The Roots and Jennifer Hudson expressed their deep gratitude for the invitation to participate in the milestone.
According to official statements, the inauguration serves as the formal dedication of the expansive center situated on Chicago’s South Side. The event is designed to unite global leaders, creators, and citizens in a tribute to the core values that defined the Obama administration and continue to spark movements for social progress worldwide.
The $850 million facility, funded entirely through private contributions, occupies a scenic 19.3-acre site within Jackson Park. Following the dedication, the Center will open its doors to the public on Friday, June 19—commemorating Juneteenth—with a weekend-long series of community festivities.
