Square Enix Hints at More Final Fantasy VII After Trilogy Concludes
Final Fantasy VII Revelation concludes the remake trilogy, but Square Enix has not ruled out continuing the story, depending on player reception to the final installment.
Series producer Yoshinori Kitase noted that the team wants to make Revelation the best part of the trilogy. The game is currently considered the conclusion to the entire project, although the history of the original Final Fantasy VII shows that character popularity can change Square Enix’s plans.
Kitase recalled that the creators of the original game also considered their work finished, but the popularity of Cloud, Tifa, Aerith, Barret, and Sephiroth led to new projects, including Advent Children and Crisis Core.
The situation could repeat. Kitase did not explicitly announce plans for new FFVII games, leaving the possibility open and tying it to player reaction to the trilogy’s finale. Releasing Revelation remains the primary priority for now.
Meanwhile, virtually nothing is known about Final Fantasy XVII yet. Square Enix has not announced the next mainline installment, so after Revelation, the series could either continue the FFVII story or move on to a completely new world, heroes, and mechanics.
