Splinter Cell Animated Series Could Get Not Only a Second Season but Also Spinoffs

“Splinter Cell: Death Watch” has already been renewed for a second season, but the showrunner suggests the story might not stop there.

Shortly after the animated series Splinter Cell: Death Watch debuted on Netflix — earning an 88% critics’ score and a 62% audience rating on Rotten Tomatoes — the streamer confirmed that a second season is forthcoming. Beyond extending the main series, writer-producer Derek Kolstad is keen to develop spinoffs that focus on other characters within the universe.

“When we look at beloved franchises, it’s essential to keep returning to the central character. We love Indiana Jones and keep coming back to him, and the first season was already quite expansive. I don’t want the story to balloon uncontrollably, as often happens with successful franchises. We must preserve the essence of the protagonist. Sam can evolve over a long arc, but we’ve also introduced new characters who are compelling on their own. If we move into a second season and beyond, I’d like to see the world broaden, exploring different facets of the spy thriller — perhaps set in the 1960s or 1970s. Ultimately, though, Sam will always remain part of this tale, even if he grows into a more optimistic shadow of Douglas.”

Therefore, after a first season that neatly tied up the main plot threads, the second season will carry forward Sam and his team’s journey, while spinoffs could serve to expand the franchise’s scope.

Netflix has not revealed specifics about the second season, and the term “soon” remains vague in this context. For example, the Devil May Cry series — which was renewed with a similar timeline — will see roughly a year between seasons.
