Spiritual successor to Patapon captivates players; Ratatan sales announced

Sony opted not to continue the Patapon franchise, leaving the series without a follow-up. Its creator, growing impatient, took matters into his own hands — and Ratatan emerged as the spiritual heir to the cult rhythm-action originally on the PlayStation Portable.

Like the original, TVT’s new title centers on rhythm-based encounters, putting the player in charge of a small tribe of warriors fighting for their freedom.

The results were quick: within a few weeks Ratatan sold more than 100,000 copies. That figure may be modest for a major publisher, but for a small team it represents a notable achievement. Compared with indie hits such as Megabonk, Ball x Pit and even Absolum, the number is relatively restrained, yet it marks a confident launch for a new IP.

The Patapon creator has shown that the concept still resonates — rhythm, strategy and a clear, uncluttered presentation continue to connect with players.
