Sparta 2035’s creators respond to criticism of the “lazy” difficulty modifier in the new mission update
Not everyone welcomed the developers’ new direction.
The team behind the turn-based tactics title “Sparta 2035” (also stylized as Sparta 2035) continues to brief the community on upcoming additions. They recently unveiled a revamped VIP rescue mission.
Rescuing the VIP will now be somewhat more demanding:
- A turn timer will be introduced: delay too long and the captive will be eliminated.
- Once freed, the VIP will, as before, join the player’s squad and must be escorted to extraction.
- If the VIP dies, the mission ends in automatic failure.
Some players criticized the timer, calling it “the laziest” and “typically unbalanced” as a difficulty modifier.
The developers clarified that the timer applies “only to one mission type where we believe it will add interest” and explained:
“In our case you cannot fail this mission simply by running out the timer. When time expires, the evacuation becomes harder because additional reinforcements arrive, but the player remains free to choose when to extract from the mission.”
