Sony Withheld Early Reviews for Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls
MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls launches today without pre-release reviews because journalists will begin testing the online-focused game at the same time as everyday players.
MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls releases on August 6, marking the first time in a long time that a major PlayStation game is launching without full reviews ahead of time.
Unlike most major Sony releases, journalists did not receive advance press copies. The reason relates to the project’s online focus, as the servers will only go live on launch day. Because of this, members of the press will begin testing simultaneously with regular players.
Full reviews will appear no earlier than a few days from now. Outlets must check server stability, connection quality, matchmaking performance, and online mode functionality under real workloads.
Journalists also need to complete the story campaign, explore all modes, examine the fighter roster, and learn the combat system. Some characters, including Deadpool, were not available for full testing before release, so the first complete reviews are expected only by early next week.
The lack of pre-launch reviews might raise concerns, but Sony previously held an open beta, allowing players to evaluate part of the gameplay on their own.
