Sony Not Delaying PS6: Insider Reassures Fans

Speculation surrounding potential PlayStation 6 delays due to a global RAM shortage has been circulating online, but recent insights offer a more reassuring perspective. Industry insider Moore’s Law Is Dead has dismissed rumors suggesting that Sony has already committed to postponing the console’s launch.

No internal meetings have been conducted to revise the project timeline. Sony, much like Microsoft, is simply keeping a close eye on market fluctuations—a standard protocol for hardware development on this scale.

Processor architecture and memory selection are being managed as separate workflows. Contracts with TSMC for the production of the PS6’s APU have already been finalized, and chip development is proceeding according to plan. The final memory configuration—whether it lands at 24GB, 36GB, or a higher threshold—is expected to be locked in by late 2026.

Historical context from the PS4 era demonstrates that Sony is capable of making last-minute hardware adjustments, as seen when the RAM was doubled from 4GB to 8GB just before launch. As of now, the PlayStation 6 remains on track for its 2027 debut; a delay would only be triggered by a significant deterioration in the global component supply chain.
