Sony Interactive Entertainment is reportedly shuttering Bluepoint Games, the renowned studio behind some of PlayStation’s most acclaimed remakes. As first detailed by Bloomberg, the closure will result in approximately 70 employees losing their positions. The Austin-based developer carved out a prestigious niche in the industry by modernizing classics such as Shadow of the Colossus and Demon’s Souls, while also providing vital technical support for other flagship PlayStation projects.
In a statement provided to Bloomberg, a PlayStation representative praised the team’s legacy: “Bluepoint Games is an incredibly talented team, and their technical prowess has delivered exceptional experiences for the PlayStation community. We thank them for their passion, creativity, and craftsmanship.”

According to the report, the decision to dissolve the studio stemmed from a “recent business review.” Before this news broke, the studio was reportedly developing a live-service title set within the God of War universe, though the project was internal and cancelled before ever reaching the public eye.
The news has sent shockwaves through the gaming community, largely due to Bluepoint’s impeccable track record for quality. Established in 2006, the studio operated independently for years before being officially acquired by Sony in 2021. Their most high-profile achievement, the PS5 remake of Demon’s Souls, launched to rave reviews for its stunning visual fidelity and faithful gameplay. Beyond their own leads, Bluepoint was instrumental in the production of God of War Ragnarök, a title that swept year-end awards and stands as one of the highest-rated games of this generation.
